The project was started in Summer 2007 as a business plan for the Inter-IIT B-Plan Contest, which was to be held as part of the IIT 2007 Global Alumni Meet at Santa Clara, California. It was then pursued as part of CSP315 - Embeeded Systems Laboratory in Fall 2007. After a basic design and prototype was conceived, the project was continued as a Mini-Project (CS) in Spring 2008. It is now the BTech thesis project of Siddharth and Umang and sponsored as part of the Technology Development Project Initiation Award for Students (TDPIAS) initiative by the Industrial R&D Unit, IIT Delhi.
The project has gone through various stages of design, prototyping and evaluation. The following are some of the milestones reached:
- Apr 09: CC1010 wireless nodes interfaced.
- Mar 09: Modified lock (for the new stand) fabricated and tested.
- Feb 09: Fabricator contacted for fabricating prototype stand.
- Jan 09: Stand design finalised - RF (wireless) based control introduced.
- Dec 08: Second version of the PCB fabricated and tested successfully.
- Nov 08: Fully functional prototype of the stand (with lock) demonstrated.
- Oct 08: Lock Design finalised and prototyped in the RP facility.
- Sept 08: Electronic functionally demonstrated.
- Sept 08: SIM300 GSM modules ordered, tested and interfaced.
- Sept 08: IB Tech RFID readers ordered, tested and interfaced.
- Aug 08: Paramount Smartcard readers ordered, tested and interfaced.
- Apr 08: First Version of the PCB fabricated and demonstrated.
- Dec 07: Electronic and Software functionality (basic) demonstrated successfully.
- Oct 07: First version of lock fabricated in the RP facility.
