System Sizing and Analysis

Term : Spring'99

This was an independant study done by me , under the guidance of Dr. Subhashis Banerjee and Dr. Huzur Saran, during the fall semester 1998-1999.

Using the departmental lab as a case study, the performance of the system resources under various loads and configurations was studied and analysed. The primary aims were :

To be able to identify the parameters affecting various aspects of system performance,
Monitor the performance by varying these parameters,
Do a statistical analysis of the observed loads and
Provide the basis to formulate models to analytically determine performance under new configurations, and derive the optimal configuration.

These results are highly specific to the cluster configuration of the Intel/Minicomputer labs of CSE department, IIT-Delhi. However, the analysis should scale upto larger set-ups also. As a matter of fact, these results were well reviewed by a committee from Intel during a recent visit to our labs.
