CSV887: Special Module in High Speed Networks (Network Coding)
- Instructor:Vinay Ribeiro
- Abstract: This course will cover theoretical aspects of
network coding, a fast developing field of coding and
information theory. In conventional networks routers forward data
packets "as is", that is with little modification. Network
coding takes a radically different approach: intermediate routers
in a network intelligently combine packets (or signals, as in the case
of analog network coding) before forwarding them. This can
lead to a potential increase in throughput and robustness of the
network. Network coding hence proves useful in myriad applications
including peer-to-peer file sharing, wireless mesh networking and
spatial sensor networking.
