I surveyed various methodologies suggested for ASIP design during the last decade. Key steps in ASIP design are identified and a broad classification of the approaches reported in literature is done. A paper have been submitted to 14th international conference on VLSI Design 2001 [1]. The paper is accepted and it is going to appear in the proceedings of this conference which will be published in January 2001.
A detail version of the paper is prepared. A report is generated for embedded systems project [2]. A paper is submitted for consideration to a journal [3].
I visited university of Dortmund for around three months.
I have used the parameterized compiler
generator encc being developed there for RISC architectures.
I have varied the number of registers for ARM7TDMI
processor in the range of 3 to 8. For each case a customized compiler
is generated which was used to generate code and execution trace for selected
benchmark programs. I have collected
experimental results for number of cycles for
execution, number of instructions executed,
static information regarding spilling, power and energy
consumption in each case. I have analyzed these
results as well as some reasoning was found for the behavior of observations
by analyzing applications at the source level. On the basis of these
results I have prepared a report which is coming
as internal technical report of department of computer
science XII, university of Dortmund, Germany [4]. One report
is generated for our embedded system reports as well [5]. A joint paper
is submitted for SCOPES 2001 to be held in Dortmund during March 2001 [6].
A paper out of this work is submitted for CODES 2001 [7].
