Asia Cup ‘12 - Rules and Guidelines

The competition will test the ability of time and stress management of the participants
sharpening the respective skills.

Specifications :

Allowed programming languages Java and C++.

Software Specifications: Eclipse, Netbeans

The duration of the competition will be 5 hours. Each team will be given 7 or more problems and 1 PC.

The competition would include a number of challenging problems each of which would require you to develop some algorithm and get the output in a fixed format on the console. The output would be matched character- to-character with the output of our program through PC2.

The scoring would hence be Yes/No i.e. either correct or incorrect.

The decision of the Judges will be final.

If there is a tie on the number of problems solved, the scoring will depend on the time taken since the start of competition to the time of correct submission and the number of wrong submissions. (This is automatically judged the PC2 and viewable on board).

Live competition boards will be available on each terminal, but it will be disabled in the last hour of competition.

The use of standard libraries and functions (methods) provided with the IDEs is allowed.

General Rules and Guidelines :

The Each team should consist of 2-3 participants of undergraduate level.

Use of mobile phones and other communication devices is strictly prohibited during the competition.

Refreshments will be served so no external edibles are allowed inside the lab. Please be careful with the drinkables near electronic hardware.

Participation in 1 hour practice session is mandatory.

Practice sessions’ results will not affect the final results however it is needed to check your platform for the competition.

All technical queries of the participants will be entertained during the practice session which will be held before the main competition or before the start of main competition.

No programming related book or storage device will be allowed inside the venue and should be submitted to the management.

Once the competition starts, any discussion between two different teams may result in immediate disqualification from the competition.

Software PC2v9 will be used as the competition management system. Participants guide can be downloaded from: http://www.ecs.csus.edu/pc2/doc/v9/PC2V9TeamGuide.pdf

The test cases on the judge’s side may not be the same as given with the problem. You have to cater for number of test cases, end of file and other restrictions if they’re not given on the first line of test cases file.

Each rejected problem will add some penalty. The penalty added for a problem will be calculated as follows:

If the problem is rejected on first submission, then number of minutes from the start of competition to the submission of problem.

If the problem is rejected on nth submission, then number of minutes from the start of competition to the nth submission of problem plus 20 * (n-1).

The teams are ranked according to the number of problems solved. If two or more teams have solved equal number of problems than the one with the minimum penalty will be ranked higher.

Decision of the competition judges shall be considered as final and cannot be challenged.

Teams creating disturbance will be immediately disqualified.

Disqualification from competition also means escorting out of competition venue and a note will be sent to their respective institutes.

The organizers reserve the right to modify the above mentioned rules and regulations without prior notice. However, a notice will be placed on top of this document. So read the document at least one day before leaving for the competition.
